Boivoj I. - the first historically provable Czech ruler, founder of the ruling dynasty Pemyslovc. His wife was later canonized Ludmila. Both husband and wife were baptized Moravian Bishop Methodius Boivoj thus also became the first Christian ruler of Bohemia.
Boivoj acted as an ally of the Great Moravian Prince Svatopluk, who had by one theory helped to become ruler of the Czechs. Ludmila, grandmother of St. Wenceslas, the married Boivoj around 874, and they also jointly adopted Christianity. According to legend, were baptized Christian's directly from Methodius, Moravian bishop and one of the Slavic Apostles, Velehrad. After returning to Bohemia founded the first Christian construction on Czech territory, the rotunda of St. Clement. In pagan Bohemia was not clearly accepted Christianity and its spread led to a revolt Czech princes, with the result that the prince had some time to stay in the asylum in Moravia. At that time Boivojova instead took his opponent Prince Strojmir. Whether Boivoj returned to power thanks to Svatopluk military aid, or the Czechs themselves called it back, it is not possible to clearly demonstrate. But the fact is that in today's Boivoj in Prague continued foundation activities and spreading the Christian faith. His next effort was, for example, a small church dedicated to the Virgin Mary, who grew nad Vltavou. Boivojovmi sons were Spytihnv and Vratislav I. I.
