Zikmund Winter (27. 12. 1846 - 12. 6. 1912) - Czech writer, historian and educator. He advised the company to writers grouped around the magazine Zvon, where he met with Alois Jirasek example, or Karel Vclav Rais. Besides prose are important as its technical publications dealing with the cultural life of Czech towns in the 14th to 17th centuries.
Zikmund Winter was born in Prague's Old Town in the family bell ringer. After graduating from the Academic Grammar School Old Town joined the Faculty of Arts of Charles University. To study extra money to private tutoring and rewriting documents from the Prague City Archives. From 1 October 1873, he worked for a year in Pardubice real school as a teacher, after successfully passing the state examination as a tenured teacher had gone to Rakovnka. At the local secondary school lasted for ten years.

In 1900 he began publishing fictional magazine Bell, whose founders belonged Winter (together with A. Jirasek and others) and which also appeared his stories. The author's finest work is novel Master Kampanus (1909), the most famous titles include the amendment of Rozina sebranec (1905), which saw the movie adaptation directed by Otakar Vavra. The heroes of his stories often end tragically, as is the case unfortunate girls Rozina.
Years spent in dusty archives took a toll on the health of the writer, suffered bouts of coughing and bronchitis. Zikmund Winter died of pneumonia while staying in the Bavarian spa Reichenhall.
