Memorandum Slovak nation - Programming Document Slovak constitutional and cultural requirements. Was adopted on 7 June 1861 Slovak National Assembly in Martin. Text lawyer wrote Slovak tefan Marko Daxner.
In 1860, the Emperor of the Habsburg Monarchy Franz Joseph I. document that became known under the name of the October Diploma. In it, he renounced absolutist government and among other things, guaranteed civil and religious liberty. However, the document lacked guarantee of national equality, which demanded the leaders of revivalist currents in the monarchy.
On the Slovak legitimate efforts lead to the drafting of the Memorandum Slovak nation. In the document, the four points have asked Slovaks legal acknowledgment of equality in Hungary, the definition of its territory, could not miss the linguistic and cultural requirements: for example, the establishment of the Department of Slovak language and literature at the University of Pest, the opportunity to teach in their native language, establish Slovak economic associations and to use Slovak offices.
The document did not require separation from Hungary, rather it was the efforts towards autonomy, but was rejected by the Assembly of Hungary. On memorandum in December 1861 followed other writings known as the Vienna Memorandum. He had further specified the internal arrangement of the so-called Hornouherskho Slovak neighborhood.
