Sir Arthur Conan Doyle (22. 5. 1859 - 7. 7. 1930) - British writer. Missed perhaps none of literary genres, but his world fame brought up stories, which performs detective Sherlock Holmes and his assistant and friend, Dr. John Watson.
Arthur Conan Doyle was born in Edinburgh, Scotland, where he studied medicine. Soon after graduating as a ship's doctor attended voyages to Greenland and Africa. After his return, he opened a surgery, but soon began to fully focus on literature. His first novel, in which he appeared detective Sherlock Holmes, came first in the magazine Beeton's Christmas Annual in 1887. He named A Study in Scarlet (A Study in Scarlet) and the book came out a year later. It is interesting that a legendary figure with the necessary pipe, it was not entirely fictional. Served as an inspiration to author Professor dr. Joseph Bell, with whom he met while studying. Sherlock Holmes performs a total of sixty titles: four of them are novels and the rest are short stories. The most successful among several film rendering Hound of the Baskervilles . The famous detective is accompanied by Dr. John Watson, who books mostly acts as narrator.
Arthur Conan Doyle was a citizen of the world and man of many interests and activities, which was also reflected in the genre variety of his work. Not only wrote thrillers, but also historical novels, poetry, plays, engaged in non-fiction. The famous works include science fiction novel The Lost World , which was also made into a movie several times.
