Salvador Dali (11th 5th 1904 - 23. 1. 1989) - Spanish surrealist painter, photographer and sculptor. A versatile artist who did not avoid extravagance in life, even in his work.

Salvador Dali was born in a family of notaries in the Catalan town of Figueres. Itself later claimed in his veins flows the blood of the Moors who invaded Spain in the early eighth century. By defended his weakness for luxury and different extremes. The painting was interested since childhood and his parents had supported his hobby. In 1922 he began studying at the Academy of Fine Arts in Madrid, but the school because of conflicts with professors finish. In the beginning, it affected the painter Pablo Picasso, Dal� with whom he met, and whom he admired. Artists of all fascinated by celebrities surpassing average, whether it was a brilliant scientist Albert Einstein or even fascist leader Francisco Franco.

Salvador Dali was extremely creative and versatile at the same time: he painted more than a half thousand paintings, illustrated books, designed theater costumes, creating sculptures, engaged in architecture, worked with filmmakers. Often, however, acted extravagantly and critics are still completely disagree on whether it was a targeted advertising strategy or the artist's innate trait. Probably it was a combination of both. Various scandals, however, have contributed to its great visibility and publicity. Dali's works are highly valued not only for artistic quality, but also because of the fame of the author's name.

The largest collection of Dali's works are collected in his birthplace in Figueres at the museum Dal� Theatre and Museum (Teatro Museo Dal�). Another large collection is located in St. Petersburg in Florida or in Madrid Reina Sofia Museum. Salvador Dal� died at the age of 84 and was buried in the crypt of his museum in Figueres.
