The noble family of Rohan - old French manor rod whose line Rohan-Rochefort in the early 19th century settled in the Austrian monarchy. In Bohemia were known property of Rohan castle Sychrov in the Liberec region.

The first written mention of the family, who become one of the most powerful couple in France, dating back to the mid-10th century. The title Viscount de Rohan (according to a castle in Brittany) began to use Alain de Porhoet in the first half of the twelfth century. Therefore, is also considered the founder of the dynasty.
