Alexander the Macedonian (356 BC. - 323 BC.) - Greek king of Macedonia, one of the most famous generals of history. Courageous military campaigns conquered territory from Greece to India.
Alexander was born in the capital of Macedonia Pella. His father was a warrior king Philip II. Macedonian, who dominated the Greek states and prepared to attack the mighty Persia. But that was only under the guidance of his ambitious son Alexander, as Earnest murdered his opponents.
Alexander came to the throne as twenty. States subjected sensed a chance to return to independence, the young king, however, dramatically intervened militarily. Deterrent example became rebellious fate of Thebes, which Alexander had to raze: inhabitants were massacred or sold into slavery. Then, when warlords managed to consolidate territory conquered by his father, turned his attention to Persia. For the first time Macedonians with the Persians and their allies clashed in the Battle of the River Biga ayi near mythical Troy. Alexander won a landslide cruelly dealt primarily with Greek mercenaries fighting on the side of the enemy. The victory opened the way for further expansion to the east. After defeats the army of the Persian king Darius III. u Issa and Gaugam gradually conquered most of the known world and stopped in India. Cities that he gave up when towing, looted and defender put to death, the surviving women and children usually ended slavery. His gigantic empire stretched from the southern Balkans and Egypt to the foothills of the Himalayas. Alexandrova not weakened too much, even if his soldiers were dying by the hundreds on the disease, exhaustion or due to clashes with the captive nations. On the way back arid territory of Balochistan hardships fell in up to half of the Macedonian army. Warlord sources, however, seemed inexhaustible.
Alexander made no secret of his admiration for the Persian culture and manners in his army fought thousands of Persians, many local princes found at conqueror understanding. That was the cause of ingrowing discontent in the ranks of Macedonian soldiers and occasional rebellions. Another of Alexander's grand plans of conquest ended his unexpected death in 323 BC, when he resided in Babylon.
