Rafael Kubelik (29. 6. 1914 - 11. 8. 1996) - world-famous Czech conductor, violinist and composer. For several years, for example, stood at the head of the Chicago Symphony Orchestra and the Royal London. Propagator of classical music Czech and Slavic composers.
Rafael Kubelik was born in the village Bchory lying near Cologne. His father was a composer and violinist Jan Kubelik excellent. In 1933 Rafael completed the Prague Conservatory and already 24 January 1934 first drove the Czech Philharmonic. With her, he completed several concerts abroad. Eight years later, he became artistic director of the famous musical body. After the war, Rafael Kubelik was honored to open the head Philharmonic first year of the Prague Spring Festival. After the revolution in 1948 he decided to leave the country. Intentions into action on July 7 of that year, when he flew to England. Kubelkova Fame star began rising rapidly, and by 1950 became the head of the Chicago Symphony Orchestra, where he remained for three years.
A great success ended version of Janek's works Katya Kabanova, which he prepared with the London Sadler's Wells Opera. In the years 1955-1958 he served as director Kubelk London's Royal Opera Garden. Often also a guest at the Vienna Opera and Israel, he served as chief conductor of the Bavarian Radio Symphony Orchestra, conducted and the Metropolitan Opera in New York. Rafael Kubelik became a promoter of the works of Slavic composers, which he, on the other hand, was accused by some critics. The Czech Republic and returned after more than four decades. His conducting career symbolically ended in 1990, when Smetana's symphonic poem My Country started the Prague Spring Festival. The famous conductor died six years later: his corpse was placed on Vyehradin Slavin.
