Cathedral of St. Barbara - unique Gothic cathedral in Kutna Hora. Since 1995 he is listed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
Cathedral of St. Barbara is the dominant and most famous building of Kutna Hora. Its construction was started in 1388, at a time when the city grew rich thanks to the prosperous silver mines and minting coins. In the initial period, oversaw the construction of Jan Parler, son of the Gothic architect Peter Parler. During his tenure, was the oldest part of the temple with a wreath enclosing chapel. With the onset of turbulent Hussite movement was the construction stopped and resumed only in 1482. The form of the object is then gradually participated builders big names. Among them were, for example: Master Hanus, sculptor and architect Matthew Rejsek (until 1506 when he died), later the architect Benedikt Rejt of reciprocating, whose arrival in 1512 meant a radical change in the concept of construction. In connection with the decline of silver mining running short of cash to finance grandly conceived temple, until the work was completed in 1558. Other significant changes occurred in the first half of the 18th century, when the temple received the Jesuits (took it in 1626). Much of the interior was rebuilt in the Baroque style. Another reconstruction took place between 1884 and 1905.
