Municipal House in Prague - one of Prague's most famous Art Nouveau buildings. Originally called Representational house capital city of Prague. The building is strongly associated with modern Czech history: October 28, 1918 it was proclaimed the First Czechoslovak Republic. In November 1989, then in the Municipal House first met representatives of the Civic Forum with representatives of the communist government. Near the Municipal House stands one of the symbols of Prague: the Gothic Powder Tower, which was part of the defense system of the Old Town.
The need to build the Czech social centers and representative, then as a counterweight to the German House (now Slavic House), was formulated in the Memorial file, which in 1901 sent the city council Association Municipal Meeting. Two years later, the architectural competition, from which, however, did not result in the winning design. The City Council eventually processing project commissioned architect Anthony Balnek and Polivka, whose work was supervised nine-member committee.
The final project is a budget that featured three million crowns, was approved December 10, 1904 and in the summer of next year, construction began. The building was officially opened on 22 November 1912, some parts of the building but they were launched three years earlier. The decoration of the Municipal House was involved in a whole range of important artists of that time. Among them were painters Mikol Ale, Alfons Mucha, Max vabinsk, Josef Ulman, Jakub huge and more. Sculptors contributed to the design of the building, among others, Josef Vclav Myslbek, Josef Maatka or perhaps Ladislav aloun and Bohumil Kafka.
