Karel Kramar (27. 12. 1860 - 26. 5. 1937) - the first Prime Minister of the newly established Czechoslovak Republic, formerly a member of the anti-Austrian resistance, lawyer. He was chairman of the National Democratic Party of Czechoslovakia. In January 1919 he survived an assassination attempt. Kram's policy can be characterized as a national one.
Karel Kramar was born in a family of builders in Vysoke nad Jizerou. With the financial strength could calmly to study law (Law Faculty) and later involved in politics, which was also his hobby. Self-discipline and ambition had never been a stranger, so the direction in which it will take his career, was clear at an early age. Education extended his studies abroad: in Vienna, engaged in the development of the Austrian state law, the national economy in Berlin and in Paris he studied political science. He was well-lingual, colluded German, French, Russian and English.
Along with Tomas G. Masaryk in 1889 co-founded the Czech People's Party - realistic, but a year later he joined the National Liberal Party, whose members called themselves the Young Czechs. For them, then ran to the Reichstag and elections in 1891 actually won elective office. The Imperial Council, he worked until the outbreak of World War II. With education and vigor gradually became one of the most prominent figures of the Czech political scene, which is increasingly defined the anti-Austrian Empire. In 1890, Kramar went to Russia, where he met his true love, Nadezhda Abrikosovovou. It was, however, a married before the divorce so they can finally marry, ten years have passed. Russia Kramar loved and saw in him a powerful Slavic ally against Austria. When he seized power in Petrograd Bolsheviks advocated for international intervention against them while in every possible way supported by the Russian emigration.
Shortly after the establishment of Czechoslovakia Karel Kramar became its first Prime Minister (elected November 14, 1918). His prime ministerial career was very short, however, ended in January 1919. In the same year it was assassinated, life saving his wallet, which stopped the fired projectile.
It is known that the relationship with President Masaryk, or Edvard Bene not too good, Kramo Villa is therefore called "vzdorohrad". In 1934, he became chairman of the national-oriented party National Unity, which was formed by merging the Czechoslovak National Democratic Party, the National League and the National Front. Karel Kramar died in 1937, was buried in the tomb of the Orthodox Church of Dormition of the Most Holy Theotokos at Olany Cemetery, next to his wife Nadezhda.
