Ji Trnka (24. 2. 1912 - 30. 12. 1969) - Czech artist, illustrator, writer and director of animated films. He is considered one of the founders of Czech animated film.
Ji Trnka was born in Pzni - St. Petersburg into a family that dealt with handmade puppets. In the years 1929-1935 he studied at the School of Applied Arts in Prague under professor Jaroslav Benda. Initially designed scenery for Spejbl and Hurvnka Joseph Skupy, he later ran a wooden puppet theater in today's rococo. There was premiered as a game between bugs, which was based on the famous book Brouci Carnation, Trnka already procured charming illustrations. Among other books with his illustrations include Hrubnv Spalicek rhymes and fairy tales, A Thousand and One Nights or Misa ball.
In 1945 he co-founded Ji Trnka Trick Brothers Studio, which achieved world fame. One year later, a film Zvtka Petrovt won at Cannes and other awards, which included an even Hans Christian Andersen Prize, gradually increasing. The exceptional position Trick Brothers Studio evidenced by the visit of members of the American studios Walt Disney, who with Jiri Trnka in 1952 completed a study stay.
Among the most famous Trnka puppet films include Old Czech Legends, Midsummer Night's Dream or Haek's The Good Soldier Schweik. This unique processing narrated Trnka friend Jan Werich.
Ji Trnka was extremely diligent in study lasted sixteen hours. Poor diet and a high level of commitment is signed on his health. Died December 30, 1969 and is buried in Pilsen.
