Beetles (1876) - the first Czech original fairy tale for children from Jana Karafita. Thanks Gustavo Gama Jaros review in Time magazine was the first edition quickly sold out, and in 1894 came the reissue. The work is appreciated for poetic style and in its time a novel approach to the world of the child.
The book discusses the locust beetles family - mother, father and bugs that were disobedient but - not listening to what his mom, dad and Janinka say. Disobedience never lost, even in adulthood, although at times it suffered.
Karafitova book with illustrations Jiri Trnka already inspired a wide range of adaptation and still belong to the golden fund of Czech children's literature. It was released in many translations. German as Die Kferchen , Sorbian as Bruncko , Polish wietlik , English as Fireflies . Russian translation of 1947 was finally released because it was censored by the Ministry of Education of the USSR from religious contexts.
Beetles came out on CD (especially on vinyl records) loaded Karel Hger. They were staged as a radio drama. On motives Karafit's Fireflies wrote Vclav Trojan children's opera, and Otmar Macha in 1992 ballet in two acts. Very popular became the "bugs prayer," O our dear God: hotels

Beetles served as the basis of several animated films. The last time was based on the book of John Karafita twelve-animated puppet series co-produced by Studio Ji Trnka, Comite Francais de Radio Tlvision, British and Jerusalem Productions company Imago. Designer of this processing is Jitka Walterov. According to her design was seventy puppets and was born the whole magically captivating fairytale world in which the puppets come to life.
Jan Carnation (January 4, 1846 in Jimramov - January 31, 1929 in Prague) was a Czech reformed after 1918 the Czech Brethren Evangelical pastor. He belonged to the informal movement whose ideal was beautiful Church of Christ. Family Jana Karafita While belonged to the affluent in Jimramov, his childhood was still very modest. Father Francis Carnation married a widow with four children. Together they had six more (so there was just so much small beetles). Among them was Jan oldest.
He worked as an independent missionary and Publisher of The Reformed leaves. In 1875, he becomes a pastor in the former Wallachian Gross Lhot (now United Lhota). After twenty years in Great Lhota went to Prague, where he dedicated the work to revise the Bible bunnies and helped in Prague churches.
Carnation was one of the leading scholars in the Czech Reformed Church, an expert in theology, especially in biblical linguistics. His writings published anonymously in Prague. He is the author and publisher of the following works: Master Jan Hus, povahopis our reformer (1872, 2nd ed. 1893); Friends, story of life for life (1873, 2nd ed. 1894); Beetles, story for small and large children (1876, 2nd ed. 1895); Refurbished songbook contains 150 Psalms and 52 selected songs (1876); Analysis Kralick New Testament in terms of language and translation; the history of our biblical text (1878), Critical Edition Bible bunny from 1613 (1887), estnctero Prague sermon (1905) Text Kralick of 1613 according to the original texts corrected (1915).
