Castle Veve - one of the largest and oldest castles in the Czech Republic. Located on a rocky promontory overlooking the Brno dam, at the confluence of the creek and Svratky Squirrels (cadastral area of ??Brno Bystrc).
The first written evidence of its existence dates from the year 1213. Originally it was probably was a small hunting lodge, major construction began only about half of the XIII. century.
Among the many owners of the castle was also influential Czech master and highest royal waiter from the reign of Henry of Carinthia Jan of Wartenberg. He acquired it by virtue of his office Moravian chamberlain. The substantial expansion and fortification took care brother of Charles IV. Moravian Margrave John Henry, who used it as a provincial treasury. In 1469 the castle briefly occupied sections of the Hungarian king Matthias Corvinus, who led his troops out against George of Podbrad. At the end of the fifteenth century castle manage Moravian master Vclav of Ludanic: lien on Veve won the year 1482.
On the form of the castle is largely signed Zinzendorf owners of the family who owned it for almost a century and sold the building until 1802.
The last private owner Veve Baron Arnold de Forest. After a protracted dispute with the Czechoslovak government in 1925 finally agreed to a severance castle and surrounding land and the government took over.
Since the early 50s of the twentieth century in the house were managed forestry school. At that time began to experience a totally inappropriate building alterations, which continued even after the abolition of school. Better times began to shine in 1999, when Veve Culture Ministry took over the castle and included under the administration of the National Heritage Institute in Brno.
