Bedrich Smetana (March 2, 1824 - May 12, 1884) - brilliant Czech composer. Author cycle of symphonic poems My Country , opera Libuse and other works of the Czech national jewelry.
Bedrich Smetana was born in the family castle Brewer Frantisek Smetana in Litomysl, as his eleventh child and first son. Relatively wealthy father was a music lover and son had four years left to learn to play the violin, the piano later. A small, but extremely talented Smetana and first public appearance at age. At that time he composed mainly instrumental compositions, his dream was to become a famous pianist (piano cycle Bagatelles and Impromptus , 1844). In 1847 he undertook a concert tour, however, ended in failure.

At that time he struggled with nagging grave illness that led him to Prague insane asylum, where he died May 12, 1884. According to recent research, it is likely that his illness was caused by protracted inflammation due to injury from childhood.
