ABOUT 5000 Sk 2002 světové dědictví UNESCO - Vlkolínec
The village of Vlkolinec is situated within the boundary of the town of Ruzomberok in the Liptov Basin of northern Slovakia. It is a remarkably well-preserved settlement with wooden log architecture, typical of the mountainous and neighbouring areas. Since 1977, it has been a folk architecture monument reserve. It is not an open-air museum of folk architecture, but still a living village. In 1993, it was added to the UNESCO World Heritage List, together with Banska Stiavnica and Spissky Hrad.
Vlkolinec has 45 authentic farmhouses with many archaic constructional elements. The buildings also include a belfry built of logs in 1770 and a covered well. The village is sensitively inserted into the natural environment on the edge of the Velka Fatra mountains, with the dominant peak of Sidorovo.
Description of the coin
Obverse:
The obverse of the coin bears a typical Vlkolinec construction, the hewn-timber hand-winch well with its shingle roof and wooden fence on both sides, the coat of arms, the country's name SLOVENSKA REPUBLIKA and the denomination of the coin 5 000 Sk.
Reverse:
The reverse of the coin shows in its upper part a window with the ornamental inscription SVETOVE DEDICSTVO UNESCO VLKOLINEC (UNESCO World Heritage Vlkolinec). On the lower part of the coin is a wooden fence with earthenware pots and a wheel, the stylized initials of the designer of the coin Maria Poldaufova, the Kremnica Mint mark and the year 2002.
