Zvkov - medieval castle Zvkov rises on a rocky promontory above the confluence of the Vltava and Otava. Its history dates back to the beginning of XIII. century. The founder of this historically important Czech castle is considered Otakar I.
The Zvkov often and liked to King Wenceslas I. During his reign, the castle was also built and this trend continued even after Vaclav son Ottokar II. Ten in 1250 to Zvkov burgrave handpicked HIRZ, under whose supervision began construction of fortifications and the royal palace. After the death of the last monarch Premyslide Wenceslas III. Henry lived in the castle of Rosenberg. The greatest fame ZVKOV brought the era of Charles IV., Who gave it to repair a romantic location at the confluence of two rivers liked to stay. It is interesting that until the completion of Karlstejn were Zvkov Czech crown jewels.
The castle was considered impregnable and survived unscathed and the Hussite wars. Plundered was behind the Thirty Years War, however the garrison surrendered much to a wider imperial army. Since 1719, family owned Schwarzenberg, but only during the era of Marshal Charles I. Schwarzenberg (* 1771-1820) began to support work already considerably neglected building and restoration of works of art. Successive repairs was extended until the end of the 19th century. In 1950 the castle was nationalized and declared a national monument, the building management today at the National Heritage Institute.
