Bezdz - The castle is situated on a hilltop in the district of Grand Bezdz Czech Lipa. Underneath lies the village of the same name Bezdz. The castle was built in the 13th century by King Ottokar II.
Bezdz served as an administrative representative and place in times of expanding Pemyslova estate. He was also a strategic fortresses that protected the traders on the road leading to the nearby German town of Zittau. Iron and golden king, however, respect the driving seat did not enjoy too, because in 1278 fell to the Moravian Field. Bezdz then became famous as a place of involuntary stay Kunhuty his wife and son, the future King Wenceslas II. Both put there Vclav's guardian Ota Brandenburg.
Among the many owners were Bezdz Charles IV., Jan from Michalovic or Albrecht of Wallenstein. After the Battle of White Mountain, the castle was burned down in 1642 it was conquered by the Swedes.
In the years 1662-1785 at Bezdz lived monks of the Order of St. Benedict, who got there at the instigation of Albrecht von Wallenstein. In 1778 the castle ravaged by Prussian troops and seven years later was Emperor Joseph II. also canceled its monastery.
The Lordly Rock inspired many artists: among them was even Bedrich Smetana and Karel Hynek Macha, whom romantic ruin influenced the creation of his most famous works of May. Until 1932 they were the owners of the castle Valdtejnov, who sent it to the administration of the Czech Tourist Club. Today Bezdz own Czech state and administered by the National Heritage Institute.
