Jozef Murga� (February 17, 1864 - May 11, 1929) - Slovak inventor and painter. A pioneer in the field of wireless telegraphy.

Jozef Murga� was born in the village Jabr�kov� (now part of the village Tajov) near Banska Bystrica. Featured unique temperament synthesis artists and scientists. Even as a child showed extraordinary talent for painting, but he was also very technically gifted. If the parents wish to become a Catholic priest, his interest in painting, however, continued unabated. The Church therefore allowed him to study painting at the Academy in Budapest and Munich. Jozef Murga� opinions tended to panslavism, which, however, for the Catholic Church became troublesome and was therefore constantly translated from one sphere to another. With such conduct is reconciled and in 1896 he left behind compatriots into the United States. As a priest, he settled in Wilkes Barre mining camp, where there were more than seventy Slovak families. In addition, the Murga� activity devoted to improving the quality of life of immigrants planted, for example, the establishment of schools and libraries, and there was time for his favorite electronics.

Murga� had an admirable knowledge in the field of wireless telegraphy, thanks to which he awarded twelve US patents. He perfected even Marconi telegraph: character transmitted via Murga�ova Ton system did not differ temporal length, but the frequency, which resulted in the acceleration of the transfer.

His success did not go unnoticed and soon received an offer from a millionaire McKenedyho. It was created by Universal Eater Telegraph Company, already Murga� became a shareholder and thanks to financial support could further develop their research.

With the help of established test transmitting and receiving stations with antennas sixty meters high. Through its Ton system then successfully transferred between dispatch Wikes Barre and Scranton. Promising developments unfortunately ended hurricane that destroyed both towers and especially the tragic death of main benefactor. McKenedy died in a car accident in England, so without his finance company soon fell apart.

The Slovak engineering services and its research showed interest alone Marconi, offer that sent him, however, was very unfavorable. Murga� so disgusted at the time of research left and returned to the rectory.

It is interesting that one of the patents awarded for the construction of a fishing reel, himself was an avid fisherman is a naturalist. In 1920 he returned to Slovakia, which had been part of Czechoslovakia (its independence, incidentally actively advocated), and intended to become a professor. Home bureaucracy, unfortunately, his education did not consider sufficient, so this outstanding innovator and inventor returned to the USA. In Wikes Barre May 13, 1929 died of heart failure.
