The National Bank of Slovakia (NBS) - the Slovak central bank, as an independent institution which supervises the local financial market. Its functions include regulating the amount of money in circulation. Cooperates closely with the European Central Bank.
NBS was established immediately after the dissolution of the Czech and Slovak Federal Republic. Was established by Act of the National Council of the Slovak Republic with effect from 1 January 1993. From 1 January 2009 it became part of the European financial system (the Eurosystem), whose task is to monetary stability in countries that have adopted the Euro.
