monument reserve Trnava - Slovak town of Trnava county is located in the center of Trnava hills, about 45 kilometers from Bratislava. Trnava grew up in the place of an ancient trading crossroads, the first written mention of the settlement dates from 1211. The town enjoyed the benefits of a free royal city, the first in what is now Slovakia. This privilege had in 1238 granted the Hungarian king Bela IV.
The city has developed alongside trade crafts, thanks to the important role played fertile soil and agriculture.
Trnava is already in the thirteenth century enjoyed a high quality fortifications: the original ramparts that connected brick towers were later replaced by brick walls.
After the fire at the turn of the 13th and 14th centuries, the city expanded westward and founded today Trojin Square.
The city gained in importance in the sixteenth century.
