Jan Kollar (29.7.1793 Mosovce - 24.1.1852 Vienna), a significant Slovak poet, historian and professor of Slavonic archaeology. In his poem "Slawy dcera" (Daughter of Glory) he expressed his progressive ideas on the homeland, nation and Slavdom and formulated the idea of Slavonic community and unity. He developed these ideas in a treatise: "On the literary community of the Slavonic tribes and languages". His collection of folk songs was published in two volumes under the title "National songs or secular tunes of the Slovaks in the Kingdom of Hungary".
