ABOUT 1999 - 200 Sk 50. výročí založení Slovenské filharmonie b.k.
The Slovak Philharmonia, an important musical institution, representative and promoter of Slovak music, was founded in 1949. Since its earliest days, the Slovak Philharmonia has done much to support and promote Slovak music. It grew up around an orchestra of the same name, which was the first professional musical ensemble to give concert performances. The orchestra started its activities under the baton of the prominent conductors, Vaclav Talich and Ludovit Rajter. During its fifty years of existence, the orchestra has worked with many well-known domestic and foreign guest conductors, soloists, and performing ensembles.
Together with the symphony orchestra other top-quality ensembles are part of the institution: the Slovak Philharmonic Choir, the Slovak Chamber Orchestra, Musica Aeterna, and the Moyzes Quartet, whose recordings and appearances at international festivals are helping to spread Slovak music and performing art throughout the world.
Description of the coin
Obverse:
The obverse of the coin shows an architectural motif from the sculptural decoration of the facade of the Reduta building, with allegories of singing and music, representing a concert atmosphere. The motif is supplemented with a depiction of the front of the main concert hall of the Slovak Philharmonia, and the pipes of the concert organ. The name of the state Slovenska republika appears on the sides, with the state shield on the lower edge of the coin. The face value is placed to the left, the year of issue to the right of the shield.
Reverse:
The bay window of the Reduta building is shown on the reverse of the coin, with silhouettes of musical instruments symmetrically arranged on it. The name Slovenska filharmonia is placed by its sides. The letter O in the world filharmonia takes the form of the opening in a guitar. The dates 1949 - 1999, indicating the year of the origin of the Slovak Philharmonia and the year of its fiftieth anniversary, are placed under the bay window.
