ABOUT 1995 - 200 Sk Rok ochrany evropské přírody Proof
The Council of Europe declared 1995 to be the European Nature Conservation Year (ENCY 1995). This represents the continuation of a long tradition of spreading the idea of environmental care. Slovakia became a member of the Council of Europe on 30.6.1993. In the same year, the Slovak Committee for ENCY 1995 was formed. In August 1994, the government of the Slovak Republic approved the General social programme for ENCY 1995. In it, Slovakia commits itself to the ideals and message of this pan-European campaign, with the aim of reminding people of the importance of the protection of nature, and activating the whole society as well as the narrow circle of conservationist organizations. In the framework of the General social programme for ENCY 1995 for Slovakia, various projects were carried out - mapping, conservation and renewal of wetlands, conservation of ecologically important ecosystems, greening of towns, villages and school grounds, revitalization of river systems and many others.
